You’re Mine

Day 27 NaPoWriMo 2018
20180414-IMG_8325 LR-2
First line by Jay Hawkins (sung by Nina Simone)

‘I put a spell on you because you’re mine’
Sketches of happy times you drew are mine.

Through broken promises, and the lies you spin –
Can’t you see those streaks of dew are mine?

With a sleight of hand, a rabbit out of hat,
Wish technicolor dreams are true, are mine.

The feelings expressed about you, whether
Written in english, hindi or urdu, are mine.

Keep my head in the clouds, while keeping
My feet on the ground: both views are mine.

Smiles you fake maybe mere ‘Mirage’, but
the real ones, conjured by voodoo, are mine.

Notes
Used the thematic notion of the prompt, instead of following it. The prompt today was:

Following Lauren Hunter’s practice of relying on tarot cards to generate ideas for poems, we challenge you to pick a card (any card) from this online guide to the tarot, and then to write a poem inspired either by the card or by the images or ideas that are associated with it.
