You Da Bomb

I am versifier, not Homer
In image making, I am no Ansel
No Romeo when it comes to romance
But if I am mediocre, nay the lowest of low
You da bomb, baby.

You the Mumtaz for whom the Shah made Taj
The Laila for whom any Majnu will gladly die
The Anarkali for whom Saleem was ready
To give up the throne.
You da bomb, baby.

You the Madhubala of grace, Ms Dixit of allure
you the Mahjabeen Bano
Your voice has sweetness of Lata and
the verve of Asha, mixed in with passion of Begum.
You da bomb, baby.

For you Gulzar will compose an epic
For you BB King and Lucille sing the Blues
For you Khusro will write namas
Mirza’s saaqii, his khayal is you, baby
For you Baiju goes cray-cray
For you da bomb, baby.

Notes:  Day 16 of NaPoWriMo 2020.  Today’s prompt “won’t expose you to controversy. Rather than encouraging minimalism, today we challenge you to write a poem of over-the-top compliments. Pick a person, place, or thing you love, and praise it in the most effusive way you can. Go for broke with metaphors, similes, and more. Need a little inspiration? Perhaps you’ll find it in the lyrics of Cole Porter’s “You’re The Top.” (Scroll down at the link for the lyrics and an annotated explanation of them).”

What a fun prompt, will have to revisit this some time later and rework.  Since I was time pressed – took the cue as the prompt suggested, straight from Cole Porter’s You’re the Top.  I am not outlining the references (for now), but if you catch them, feel free to leave them in the comments.
