Notes:  Penned an on-prompt pantoum, as again running short of time today.  Day 7 of NaPoWriMo 2020.  The prompt was write “a poem based on a news article. Frankly, I understand why you might be avoiding the news lately, but this is a good opportunity to find some “weird” and poetical news stories for inspiration. A few potential candidates:

Earth Has Acquired a Brand New Moon That’s About the Size of a Car,”

Ohio Man Seeks World Record with Beer-Only Lent Diet

Pablo Escobar’s ‘Cocaine Hippos’ May Be Restoring Colombia’s Ecosystem

Researchers Discover Faraway Planet Where the Rain is Made of Iron

Today is April 7th – National Beer Day in the USA.  Taking the national day and combining with this – I really don’t know what to call other than an interesting –  news story from three months ago.

Drought

Day 8 of NaPoWriMo.  The prompt was to write a palinode.  A Palinode is a “poem in which the poet retracts a statement made in an earlier poem.”  Did not have much time today other than to pen a reversal of a pantun I had penned couple of years ago.

Drought

Scarce nutrients, no rain and intense sunshine

The pink blooms on magnolia trees already seemed spent

I gaze out into the dry fields of caked brine

Without wind for the open seas the sails look bent.

The original was Labyrinth, which was inspired by the Pacific Northwest.  So California drought seemed like an appropriate palinode.
