Day 8 of NaPoWriMo. The prompt was to write a palinode. A Palinode is a “poem in which the poet retracts a statement made in an earlier poem.” Did not have much time today other than to pen a reversal of a pantun I had penned couple of years ago.
Scarce nutrients, no rain and intense sunshine
The pink blooms on magnolia trees already seemed spent
I gaze out into the dry fields of caked brine
Without wind for the open seas the sails look bent.
The original was Labyrinth, which was inspired by the Pacific Northwest. So California drought seemed like an appropriate palinode.
